Hot Summer Sands by Rachel Leigh (Author Interview / Book Review / Contest Giveaway)

In association with CBLS Promotions, Jersey Girl Sizzling Book Reviews welcomes Rachel Leigh, author of Hot Summer Sands!

Author Interview

Welcome to Jersey Girl Sizzling Book Reviews Rachel!

Do you have a "day job," or is being an author your career?

An author is my career - in between being a full-time mom to my two young daughters. I write erotic romance under Rachel Leigh and mainstream romance under a different pen name so I usually have one book to promote, one under submission and one to write, all going on at the same time. I like to be busy!

How did it feel to have your first book published?

Fantastic! I had written mainstream romance for a couple of years before deciding to write erotic romance and had no idea if I could do it. My first story Explicitly English started off as mainstream but the heroine wanted far, far more enjoyment than was allowed in that genre. So, of course, I had no choice but to tell her story ... her way. ;)

Do you have a special "spot/area" where you like to do your writing?

I write in different spots all over the house - the kitchen table, the sofa, the garden, in bed ... it all depends on the weather, where the kids are and how I'm feeling. I'm not a writer who tends to go to coffee houses or public places because I get too distracted by 'people watching'. It's better I stay home and concentrate.

When you write, do you adhere to a strict work schedule, or do you work whenever the inspiration strikes?

Strict work schedule every time - I wouldn't get anything done otherwise. As I am lucky enough to stay home, I get the kids off to school and then work from 8:30 to 3:30 every day during the week and as much as I can slip off without being missed during the weekends.

The evenings are for family time and I am equally as strict with myself about that too!

What are your favorite things to do when you are not writing?

Reading, watching US crime dramas, walking the English countryside near where I live with my beloved black Labrador.

What is the most gratifying thing you feel or get as a writer?

It sounds ridiculous but the part that still gives me the biggest high is getting the cover art drop in my inbox, lol! It only feels real once I see that - the acceptance, the editing, it's all surreal but then once I see my name on the cover ... then I celebrate. :)

How do you usually communicate with your readers/fans?

As I live in the UK but write for the US market, I communicate via email, blogs and interviews. I'd love to think I'll make it to the US for an extended visit one day but can't see it happening at the moment.

Is there anything in your books based on real life experiences or are they purely all from your imagination?

Most is from imagination except for the core theme or mood running through the story. I think love is universal and eternal. The emotions of lust, hurt, joy and romance as they were in the 1600s and beyond. As a romance writer, the emotion is what I focus on, everything else is secondary.

What authors have been your inspiration or influenced you to become a writer?

I've got too many authors that I admire to name them all but my earliest influence was Enid Blyton, then Judy Blume, then Harlequin books and then onto Nora Roberts and many, many others. I read as much as possible - to me, you can't be a writer if you don't read voraciously.

Are you currently writing a new book? If yes, would you care to share a bit of it with us?

My next book is set in the sexy, scandalous world of British show jumping ... here's the opening paragraphs:

Tilting her chin, Catherine marched forward. The red and white entrance tent was just ahead of her, and she slipped her press pass from her shoulder bag as she went through the opening. She hung it around her neck and approached one of the three smiling girls behind a long folding table. They looked puffed and preened to within an inch of their lives. Fake tan, lashes and nails had been applied with gusto.

Catherine bit back a smile. With her ample size C breasts and slender waist she'd give these three a run for their money even if she had ten years on their eighteen or nineteen.

She approached the blonde of the blonde, brunette and red-head trio. No doubt, one of each purposely placed so there was something to suit everyone's taste as they came through the entrance.

She held out her pass. "Hi, I'm Catherine James. Fayre Mead Gazette."

Book Description:

Chef Michelle Hutton flees her controlling mother in the UK for the sun and freedom of Greece, longing for a new beginning and maybe just a bit of Zante's local heat. Sexy, pro-bono lawyer Sam Clarke might just be the one to teach her to let go. He's sexy, capable, and totally in control. And too damn hard to resist.

Sam Clarke and his best friend had once been the baddest boys to hit the local party scene - sex, booze, and more sex - until his friend is killed. Sam turned his back on the blatant sexuality of the island years ago, but can't resist Michelle's desire to bask in the sun and explore the need that grows between them.

Book Excerpt:

Closer and closer he came, rounding the counter and standing so close to her that Michelle was forced to tip her head back to meet his eyes. The smell of him - warm, musky and clean - wafted under her nose. She inhaled ... and really wished she hadn't as her knees quivered. She took another step back until her ass hit the steel counter top behind her.

His gaze darted over her face, lingering at her lips. Michelle put a hand on his chest without thinking and then whipped it back to grip the counter.

Trepidation mixed with arousal pooled like liquid in her stomach. "Sam, talk to me. What's wrong?"

His eyes dropped to her chest and unmistakable lust flared in his eyes, darkening them to a gorgeous midnight blue. Desire pulled at her core and her nipples tightened.

He met her eyes. "Everything."

She was trapped by the raw animal need to have him. To feel his hands on her bare skin, his mouth on hers. She licked dry lips. "You look like you're either going to attack me or -"

"Fuck you?"

She flinched. The harsh expletive shocked and aroused her in equal measure. "What?"

His hands clamped onto her hips, possessive and unyielding. A feral storm raged in his dark blue gaze. "I need to know."

She stared, unable to move or breathe. "Need to know what?"

"Need to know if this ... these feelings ... are just - "

"Lust?" The word slipped from her tongue, her mind blank of everything but Sam. The way he smelled, the lickable square line of his jaw. The yearning to have him on her, in her, over her.

The corner of his mouth twitched and a little of the fiery frustration seeped from his eyes. "Exactly."

My Book Review:

Twenty-six year old Michelle Hutton escaped the oppressive British upper-class clutches of her mother and ex-fiance for the sensual island of Zante, Greece. Determined to begin a new life as an independent woman who will do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, Michelle is excited to embrace her new persona. What she doesn't expect is to meet sexy pro-bono attorney Sam Clarke at the airport bar. Sam rescued her from the unwanted attentions of a beefy drunk dude, while also saving her from falling off her bar stool. There is instant sexual attraction that builds with a simmering intensity that is sure to explode!

Both Michelle and Sam have run away from their pasts in the UK to Zante, but their personal demons persist and cause them to struggle with the powerful emotional and physical tug that draws them to each other like a moth to a flame. Michelle left a controlling mother whose infidelity devastated both Michelle and her father. Sam and his sister Fiona left the UK to escape their parent's brutal divorce. For the first few years in Zante, Sam and his best friend Tony worked hard and played harder, until two years ago when Tony's sex escapades caused him to be murdered by a jealous lover. Devastated by Tony's death, Sam swore off that lifestyle and devoted his energies to saving the world one person at a time as a pro-bono attorney.

Michelle is reluctant to be dependent upon another guy until she has her independence firmly intact. Sam is reluctant to have a relationship because of what happened to Tony, but when he meets Michelle, his stance changes and he knows he wants her, he has to have her.

Can Michelle and Sam let go of their emotional demons and give in to the physical attraction that just can't be denied? Only on the Hot Summer Sands of the nude beach in Zante will the inhibitions and struggles give in to the desire that awaits them.

Hot Summer Sands is a sexy little story that has enough sizzling passion to make your breath catch and your pulse race. Written in the third person narrative, the reader is transported to sexy island of Zante, Greece, where sex appeal and anything goes is the norm when the sun goes down. Rich in detail and vivid descriptions, the author masterly weaves an erotically provocative story of two people who are attracted to each other, yet struggle with their own emotional demons. The steamy sex scenes build upon each other, you can't help but get caught up in Michelle and Sam's love story as their physical and emotional needs build to an exploding crescendo.

The author has created a cast of characters that are realistic, complex people who each have issues in their lives. I really enjoyed the immediate attraction that Michelle and Sam had upon meeting each other, and how their relationship grew from a physical to emotional one. The supporting cast of characters were a great addition to the storyline, while I did not like Michelle's mother one bit, I loved the support, love, and friendship that Sam's sister Fiona showered upon both Sam and Michelle. The dialogues and interactions among the characters were engaging and made this story even more entertaining. I would be remiss if I did not comment on the very hot, steamy, passionate sex scenes ... one word ... WOW!

Erotica romance fans, this story is a must read, it will satisfy your sensual cravings and make you wish you were on that island!

Book Description:

When Emilie is dumped by her boyfriend, best friend Jack Voss offers a shoulder and a place to live - the other side of his duplex. He's always there, fixing her problems, her car, her sink. Emilie doesn't know what she'd do without him, or with the feelings she's having for him. His shoulder doesn't just offer comfort anymore; his touch is a turn-on. Their shared wall is the only thing keeping them from sharing a bedroom - and fanning the flames might risk breaking something that Jack can't fix.

Book Excerpt:

Emilie hadn’t lied about the leak in her pipes. Just like she hadn’t broken her dishwasher, or the leg off her couch, or the alternator in her car on purpose. But, to be honest, it was almost a relief when those things happened, because they gave her an excuse to see Jack.

She’d called him first thing this morning when running water for her coffee had resulted in puddles beneath the sink. He’d come over the first chance he’d had and now he was on his hands and knees on the linoleum looking at the pipe that oozed moisture, oblivious to the woman behind him who was also soaking wet, albeit for an entirely different reason.

His ass looked good enough to take a big bite out of. Emilie couldn’t help herself; it was right there, sticking out from under her kitchen sink, and she had to clench her hands into tight fists to keep from grabbing it. Still, that didn’t keep her mind from wandering, and when one of his hands reached out for a wrench, she pictured it on her, cupping her breasts, thumbs circling the rosy buds. Instantly her nipples puckered, as tightly clenched as her hands, and her crotch dampened even more. Damn it!

Months and months. That was how long they’d lived next to each other, how long they’d watched football together on Sundays, how long she’d done his mending and he’d helped her with repairs. It was almost a year now since Tony had left for greener pastures, longer since she’d had a man’s cock inside her, and dear God…if Jack didn’t make a move soon, she would die from frustration. There was only so much her vibrator could do to assuage her desperate need for the man.

She couldn’t be that repulsive, could she? And she’d never seen him get serious with anyone else, not in the whole time they’d known each other. He dated now and then, of course, and he’d surely gone home with some of those dates for a little mattress bouncing, but there was never anyone important enough for her to get to know.

That was actually a very good thing. Because if he had brought Miss Right over for a visit, Em wouldn’t have been responsible for her spurred-by-the-green-eyed-monster actions.

A glance back down at the man who was driving her crazy nearly made her moan. He shifted, his ass moved and his thighs flexed as he crawled forward a few inches. The denim of his worn jeans hugged him as tightly as Em dreamed of doing and, before she had time to think about it, she took a step forward, hands outstretched to snatch hold of the prize.

She stopped herself just in time and tucked her hands behind her back to keep from doing something stupid.

“So, Jack?” Her voice was tight with desire and discomfort.

“Hmm?” He peeked at her over one shoulder, a smile in those midnight blue eyes, then quickly returned his attention to the pipe.

“Almost done?” She hoped so, because at this rate, she’d come just from thinking about him.

“Nearly there. Leak’s almost plugged.”

I’ve got a leak you can plug.

My Book Review:

Sugar Walls is a steamy contemporary erotic romantic short story that will stimulate and arouse your sensuality. Written in the third person narrative, this is a story about how Jack and Emilie, who are best friends and neighbors, struggle with their mutual interest in each other beyond friendship. Both are afraid to take the next step and ruin their friendship, so they endure months of private sexual fantasies, secretly making love to each other through their shared thin walls as they self-pleasure themselves. Their secret fantasies continue as frustration and desire for each other builds ... will one of them finally make a move? Which desire is going to win: to just be friends or become lovers? Only the Sugar Walls knows what will become of their desire for each other!

Sugar Walls is an entertaining short story that quickly takes you through the months of Jack and Emilie's secret interest and desire for each other. While their desire grows, the author stimulates the reader's interest with some really steamy fantasy self-pleasure scenes. The build-up of Jack and Emilie's desire is just the warm up for their eventual coming together where their steamy, intense coupling is HOT, HOT, HOT! I thoroughly enjoyed this short story, it was definitely hot cha cha cha worthy!

Author Guest Post: Sara Brookes, Author of Chasing Sin

In association with Goddess Fish Promotions, Jersey Girl Sizzling Book Reviews welcomes Sara Brookes, author of Chasing Sin!

I recently came out to my co-workers as a romantic author. Their reaction was actually quite hilarious. I didn't disclose my author name as I've made it a rule to keep my author-life separate from those who know me in an everyday capacity such as this. But there's a luncheon held occasionally where we have to offer up two truths and a lie and everyone has to take a shot at guessing each other's. It's a way to foster good relationships between co-workers and it's actually quite fun.

I was fairly certain they'd latch onto my lie because it just seemed too out there to be real. But they latched onto the statement I made about being an award-winning author, swearing over and over that just couldn't be possible.

My three statements were:

A case of chicken pox affected my sense of smell
Award-winning author
First car, a Phoenix, caught fire

A few minutes of debate and after I revealed which statement was a lie and which were truths, I'd inadvertently hijacked the conversation! Of course, I refused to reveal the name I wrote under, but I was taken aback by how surprised and fascinated they were in a fact I see as pretty normal. The I thought about it.

Having a book release is perfectly normal to me - at least now, a few years ago that wasn't the case. Sure, I still get nervous when release day approaches, but seeing my name on a book cover isn't unusual. Going to that luncheon made me realize just how much I've gotten used to the idea of people reading my books.

It's still pretty awesome!

Has anyone ever learned something about you they were surprised to hear? And can you guess which of the other two statements above is the lie?

Book Excerpt: Chasing Sin

"I spent so many summers baking to a crisp on that very beach. It's hard to let that kind of thing go."

"A teenage Kate in a bikini. I would've liked to have seen that."

"I wasn't much. Pretty gangly as a kid. No boobs to speak of."

Tripp scooted closer, wrapping his arms around her as he pulled her against him. "But yet you've blossomed into the gorgeous woman you are today."

He felt so good against her. So right and someone she could get very used to getting lost in. It was dangerous to feel so comfortable here in his arms, but a few minutes couldn't hurt, right?

She buried her nose in his chest, inhaling the familiar scent of his soap that mixed with the sharp salt air from the water. "I don't deserve you two."

"Bullshit, you have every right to be with us."

Those soft words were a weight in her chest, and despite the pain it caused, she pulled away from the warmth of his body. He muttered a protest as she hopped off the railing. She stopped after opening the door and glanced back over her shoulder.

He looked so damn handsome sitting there with the panoramic view of the beach spread out behind him. Disappointment darkened his gaze and she fought to find the courage necessary to walk away. A gust of wind blew through the porch, whistling against the aging planks. The sound reminded her of the violent storm that had gotten her into this predicament in the first place.

Instead of courage, that reminder gave her strength to do what she had to.

"I can't, I'm sorry."

Book Excerpt:

"We're looking at a direct hit. Almost as if we had a great big target on my roof." Sometimes it was all about knowing your gut and he'd bet anything those instincts drover her forecast. Kate sighed heavily as she pushed away from the table. "Though I don't think it's going to strengthen any more. Unless I'm wrong about that too."

Doubt was a natural part of this business and he'd seen her have it enough to know she didn't truly believe she'd made an error. "Should I remind you that after five years of chasing together you've never been wrong?"

Her eyes cut to the computer. "I think in this case I wish I was."

"Wish you were what?" Tripp's voice, still thick with sleep, sounded behind Snyder. He pressed a quick kiss to the back of Snyder's neck as he passed, and Snyder took a moment to admire the way his ass moved under the towel he'd slung around his hips. "Got any coffee?"

"Third cabinet on the left. Top shelf."

Snyder watched Kate's focus return to the laptop but he'd seen something that caused him to smile. It had been subtle, and if he hadn't been watching her, he would have missed it completely.

But seen it he had.

That faint shimmer of those strong eyes, the flash of red on her cheeks when Tripp came up behind him and kissed his neck, was hard to simply ignore. Whatever reason had driven her out of the hotel room that night hadn't been because of the lack of desire. The brief flare had been enough to tell him she wanted them both still.

Lucky for them, sitting around waiting for this monster to get here at then end of the week left him plenty of time to get to the bottom of things. One of the few times he was certainly going to appreciate the downtime.

My Book Review:

Dr. Kate Sinclair is a fiesty risk taker and adrenaline junkie, who is a storm chaser and teaches forecasting at the University of Oklahoma. Snyder Morgan and Tripp Dawson have been storm chasing partners and lovers for the past nine years. As fellow storm chasing colleagues, Kate met Morgan and Tripp five years ago while hunting down tornadoes and hurricanes. While working together chasing a tornado in Kansas, a mutual secret sexual desire by the guys to have Kate join them in a threesome explodes into a night of uninhibited passion that lives up to everything all three of them had hoped for. But the next morning Kate has second thoughts about this new part of their relationship, she doesn't want to get in between Morgan and Tripp, so she regretfully  leaves them to chase the next storm. A few months later, the hurricane season is heating up and the trio once again is together storm chasing after a powerful hurricane. When the hurricane intensifies, they find themselves hunkering down to ride out the storm, and their dormant sexual tension and passion is reignited once again, and there's no time like the present to get it all out in the open!

Chasing Sin is one hell of an adrenaline rush of a novella! With an intertwining storyline consisting of storm chasing and a menage a trois, the highly sex charged action packed story exudes enough raw passion, heat and adrenaline that is sure to scorch the pages! I really liked how the author balances the intertwining storylines, I think it made the story that much more compelling and entertaining.

Author Guest Post: Ian Truman, Author of Tales of Lust, Hate and Despair

In association with Innovative Online Book Tours, Jersey Girl Sizzling Book Reviews welcomes Ian Truman, author of Tales of Lust, Hate and Despair!

I have been invited to write this guest blog and I was looking for a topic that would kinda set it apart from most blogs about writing. A lot of my work is set in real places, which I describe as vividly as possible. I had this short story that that was called A Lone Soul that was simply the story of an old man who was closing down his shop in a gentrified part of the city. He then takes a walk down St-Laurent Street towards the old port and the river and that's all you'll get if you don't want me to spoil it. That said, the angle I chose to use in that story was to simply be as descriptive as possible in order to be detached from the subject. It was compared by one of my creative writing teachers to The Street by Mordecai Richler, which is no small compliment. That was a few years ago and that was the moment I realized that "place" was incredibly important to my work, so I will present to you a few places that have inspired me over the years. If you ever visit Montreal, I hope you take the time to visit a few of them.

Griffintown: The historic borough of Griffintown is being razed as you read these lines (Summer of 2012) but I was lucky (or unlucky) enough to have worked in one of the urban factories that was the trademark of Griffintown. Sadly, the city did not see fit to protect a lot of these bicentennial (sometimes more) buildings and have green lit gigantic condominium projects to be built on the grounds of this historically working class neighborhood. Get a chance to check it out before it is all gone, it sure has inspired me. Start around Ottawa Street and head towards the south-west until you reach Patrick Street and the Canal. I mostly used this setting for poems I wrote in a series titled Waiting To Die. I would also recommend you look up the plays On The Job, Nothing To Lose, and Balconville by one of my favorite authors, David Fennario.

The Italian Social Club: The best place to feel like you are in a Scorsese movie is The Italian Social Club located on the corner of St-Viateur and De L'esplanade. Sure, the neighborhood is now filled with rich yuppies and they're kicking out artists every day, but as long as the cafe live on, you'll get a souvenir of why Mile-End was the place to be for over a decade. My next crime project (Memoirs of a Hit-Men) will be based on this location for a lot of its calmer scenes.

Masson Street: The family friendly neighborhood of Rosemont is booming with life and Masson Street is still somewhat of a city secret. The working class is still strong in the area even though there are numerous condominium projects sprawling here and there. I love this place, I'd like to spend the rest of my days here. If you ever want to see what life of a Montrealer is outside of tourist traps, this would be it. Don't miss: Jovy's Onion Bagels, Tic-Tac-Toc's toy store (if you got kids). Sadly, Masson Street still lacks a very good cafe, and with Starbucks just opening in the middle of it, such a dream might never happen. Some segments of Tales of Lust, Hate and Despair are inspired by this area.

Concordia University: Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, Concordia University is definitely a place to be if you want to study creative writing. With (still) affordable tuition for Quebec residents, I think the price for foreign students is not so high since there is an increase in foreign admissions every year. The library is well deserved and has focused on high tech and online databases, which opens up countless possibilities. The historic Irish-Scottish background of the University is still strong even though you'll probably hear 78 different languages at the same time just by sitting in the student hall. Top spot to write: 12th floor of the EV building. There's a small lounge with big windows: a great view of the city. I don't think I've written specifically about this spot or the university itself, but it was a great place to study still.

Montreal-East: You need an industrial backdrop and a piss-poor neighborhood to inspire your trashy or gritty novel, Montreal-East is the place to be. Of course, it might sound judgmental to say it's piss poor, but it is. I would know, I've worked there for years and I used to live in the nearby borough of Tetreaultville, which is basically across the street. If you want rusty, closed down factories, World War II era foundries and old refineries, that's the place you want to go to. There are no cafes that I know of or actually any place you could sit down. As far as I know the last restaurant in the entire "city" is on Notre-Dame and Broadway. The most "interesting" factories are on Durocher and Marien Streets south of Sherbrooke. My entire first novel, The Factory Line, was inspired by my life during these "factory years."

L'Assomption: You need a typical, one-factory-town, L'Assomption is where I go for half of the narrative for my next project (A Teenage Suicide) the place is just far enough to be called the country, just close enough for you not to waste your time driving. It's got an old college, a few good looking houses, a lot of ugly houses, and a small Main street that has the necessary theater, cafes and delis. There's a beautiful steel bridge next to the town's church. Go as far as L'Assomption College, don't bother going in any further.

Hochelaga: Much like the south-west, Hochelaga was a lowdown, working class, crime ridden neighborhood. The only difference is that it was the French who lived there instead of the Irish. The crime rate has gone down dramatically, but it still smells like beer and cigarettes all over the place. This is still where you go to meet punk rockers in the city and you need a torn shirt at goodwill. A surprise construction boom in the last three years has dramatically changed the neighborhood, but as I lived there for years prior to gentrification, I can say it was for the best because that place was a dump. The best place for coffee is Atomic Cafe, but you'll have to endure their horrible vintage-techno music. I know I can't take it anymore. The same building is host to the "7e" indie video store and they do have an impressive collection. Some of my characters for Tales of Lust, Hate and Despair have spent their youth in Hochelaga and it does occupy a fair portion of the storyline.

Of course, there are dozen other places you could visit in the city, I just wanted to talk about a few of the places that are less visited, or that have changed so much in the last few years that they don't have the same feel anymore.

Times are changing and I just feel like slowing down right now.

I hope you enjoyed this quick tour.

Take care,

Ian Truman

Hey kid.

I know you requested to be here in person but your mother had enough sense not to allow it. You're not eighteen yet, so her decision is final and I think she made the right call. Donnaconna Federal prison ain't no place for a girl like you.

Now, I know I'm not much of a father, probably because I never had the chance to be one but I am sorry I never got to be there for you. Your grandfather came to visit a few weeks ago. I'm glad to see that there's at least one person from my side of the family who's looking out for you. He told me you applied to circus school in Montreal. I never thought you could go to school for that, but he says your heart is set on it. So my heart is now set on it too. I just hope I get to see one of your shows one day. If you'll have me, of course.

I guess what I want to say is, I ain't got much, but I do have a little money set aside. Only seven thousand or so, but it's something. It's all legit money, so don't worry about how I raised it. I don't do drugs and I've quit drinking years ago. They don't pay much here in prison, but I'm working the laundry service for 5.50 a day. I've been behaving well, and I got lucky enough to get on a Corcan program twice. It pays a little more and it gives me credits and experience to work when I get out. Now, the money is yours whether you want it or not. I don't have much use for it in here.

Your mother said you wanted to know what happened that day, said you were pretty insistent about it. I don't know if it is out of anger, which I wouldn't hold against you, or if it is out of compassion, but if you think you are old enough to hear these things, I'm ready to tell you.

I don't know everything for sure, but it was pretty easy to figure out. The news covered the story plenty. I had court records and word of mouth from friends and friends of friends and so on. Anything I didn't know for sure, I just added in the details that made the most sense. Now, there is still time for you to forget about this because I'm not going to make it pretty for you. I may be a murderer, but a liar is not something I am. I won't try to get you on my side either. I will tell it like it was and let you decide for yourself.

You have to understand that I hadn't seen you at that point except in pictures. And even then, it was Mikey who had shown it to me while I was inside. Alice ... Well, I thought your mother probably had better places to be or better people to be with. She can say whatever she wants. She never supported me in any way and that is one thing she can't deny.

But you should've seen yourself in that picture. You were beautiful. Oh yes! Those pure green eyes, brown hair, lovable little cheeks, and you wore a little princess outfit with a tiara and a wand. It was nothing too corny. All green with butterfly wings. A fairy princess or something. I'd spend days looking at that picture.

That picture was taken a year prior to that night in the bar. I didn't know what to expect anymore. How much had you grown? Had you grown all your baby teeth? Did you like music? Of course, everybody likes music, but what kind and just how much? And I remembered an oath I made to myself back in prison. I swore I'd find me a good guitar when I got out, and I would sing you all the songs I had written about you. And two years is plenty of time to work on songs, let me tell you that.

I imagined myself on a stool, playing the cords on an acoustic guitar and you'd be dancing and twirling and all of that. What can I say? You were my light. Kept me straight and out of trouble, and to this day you still do. It is strange how I've never been in trouble while I've been in prison, either in Cowansville or here in Donnaconna. I can assure you that there are plenty of ways to get into trouble in here, but I never did thanks to you. Those three days of freedom earned me a lifetime in prison, but I have been at peace ever since, knowing you were alright out there.

In so many ways, you saved me without you even knowing it so I swore I would make sure to tell you someday, what went down and why it happened and now you are asking me just that. I'm not even looking for salvation here, maybe just understanding and forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a long hard road. I just hope you can understand that.
