Book Description:

Two brothers, one a player, one a playboy, are on a collision course with destiny and a woman who thought she won a prize when she was allowed a look inside the Sons of Sanctuary MC.

Brigid Roan is a graduate student at the University of Texas. She had no trouble getting her thesis approved, but finding a Hill Country motorcycle club willing to give her access to their lifestyle was looking impossible. Then she got a lead. A friend of a friend had a cousin with family ties to The Sons of Sanctuary. What Brigid wanted was information to prove a proposition. The last thing she had in mind was falling for one of the members of the club. Especially since she was a feminist academic out to prove that motorcycle clubs are organized according to the same structure as primitive tribal society.

Brash Fornight was standing in line at the H.E.B. Market when his world tipped on its axis. While waiting his turn to check out, his gaze had wandered to the magazine display and settled on the new issue of “NOW”. The image on the cover, although GQ’d up in an insanely urbane way, was… him. After reading the article, Brash threw some stuff in a duffle and left his only home, a room at The Sons of Sanctuary clubhouse, with a vague explanation about needing a couple of days away. He left his truck at the Austin airport and caught a plane for New York, on a mission to find a mysterious guy walking around with his face.

Book Excerpt:

“Sir?” Brash Fornight gradually became aware that someone behind him in the grocery checkout line was trying to get his attention. “Sir?” He refocused and glanced behind him. The woman leaning on a cart overflowing with chip bags and cookie boxes nodded toward the cashier indicating that it was his turn to move forward. Brash looked her in the eye and had to give her props. Most people wouldn’t have the balls to try to herd a guy wearing Sons of Sanctuary MC leather.

The club employed a woman who cooked and did grocery shopping several times a week as part of her job description, but Brash didn’t like to explain his relentless craving for peanuts and he liked being teased about it even less. He didn’t know whether it was the Vitamin B or the fat or just because he liked the taste, but he couldn’t imagine going a day without them.

That’s how he came to be standing statue still In the grocery checkout line, being prompted by some woman with more nerve than sense. While he was waiting, his eyes drifted over the magazine display and settled on the cover of “NOW”, on the Most Eligible Bachelor edition no less. The debonair figure staring back was wearing Brash’s own face and body. He looked different with short hair and a four thousand dollar suit with the shirt fashionably open at the neckline, but the similarity was inescapable.

On impulse he grabbed the magazine and tossed it onto the conveyor belt with his week’s stash of peanuts.

He stuffed the bags into the saddlebags of his bike and roared toward home, nervously tapping his fingers on handlebars at red lights, riding on shoulders to keep from slowing down. He was anxious to get to the privacy of his own room and read about Branach St. Germaine.

Two beers, one jar of peanuts, and one “NOW” article later, Brash was sitting on the edge of his bed looking at the wall, seeing nothing but his own heavy thoughts. He pulled out his phone, looked up a website, and waited on hold for ten minutes to hear the time of the next flight from Austin to New York.

There was a flight to Newark in a little over three hours. He looked at his watch and calculated the time it would take to drive from Dripping Springs at that time of day. As he booked the flight, he stood up, walked to the small closet, grabbed a duffel bag, and began shoving stuff into it. Ten minutes later, he closed his door and locked it, threw the duffel over his shoulder, and headed straight for the office downstairs. He dropped the duffel on the hallway floor beside the closed door and knocked.

“Yeah?” Brash looked inside, glad that his dad was by himself, and stepped in. “What’s up?”

“I’m takin’ personal time, Pop. Gonna be gone for a couple of days.”

“What the hell is ‘personal time’?”

The gruffness made Brash smile. “It means I’m not gonna be here if you call and I’m not tellin’ you why.”

The Sons of Sanctuary President looked up at Brash, over the top of his readers, and narrowed his eyes. “You got a secret?”

“Everybody’s got secrets.”

Brandon Fornight studied his son for a minute. “True enough. Is it the kind of secret that could affect this club?”

Brash shook his head. “Don’t see how.”

“Well, then. See you… When did you say you’d be back?”

“I didn’t.”

“Bein’ purposefully vague, are you?”

Brash grinned. “That’s why they call it personal time. But I expect to be back Friday.”

“You gonna have your phone with you?” When Brash nodded, Bran looked back down at his ledger in a deliberately dismissive gesture. “Well, get outta here then.”

Brash parked his bike in the airplane hangar. The structure had already been on the property when the club had bought it and turned it into a compound twenty years earlier. They used part of it for vehicle maintenance and repair and part for parking.

Some of the guys who were working looked over and shot curious glances his way when Brash threw his duffel into his pickup and started it up, but it wasn’t their way to ask questions. The Sons figured that if somebody wanted you to know something, they’d tell you.

Brash took a cab to a midtown hotel, wondering all the way why human beings would choose to live in such a place. As he slid his credit card across the hotel counter to the agent on duty, he glanced at the name, Brandon Fornight. It seemed unlikely that it was a coincidence that that the mysterious look-alike’s first name began with the same four letters. He ordered room service and pulled out his laptop.

Getting intel on the guy didn’t take advanced ops. Within an hour Brash knew where Brannach St. Germaine worked, what kind of car he drove, what kind of women he dated, who his tailor was, and where he liked to dine. There was no shortage of photos online, but the one that grabbed his attention wasn’t one of the many with starlets or debutantes on his arm. It was the one taken with his arm around his mother as they were arriving together for some red carpet fundraiser. Brash had an almost irresistible compulsion to reach up and touch her face on the screen in front of him.

The knock on the door signaled that room service had arrived. It cost a fortune, but looked and tasted like shit. So he closed the computer and went out for a walk to clear his head and find something edible.

Book Description:

Take one hot, sexy cop add a beautiful Forensic Pathologist and you have one heck of a steamy love affair.

BUT, who is threatening their lives?

Whose life is really at risk?

AND, why has a young man been murdered and what the hell do snakes have to do with it all?

Book Excerpt:

Flynn opened the door and inhaled sharply. Lily stood before him, a Goddess in a red mini dress with a neckline plunging to her waist. The creamy white mounds of her breasts were barely covered and they rose and fell with each breath she took. His eyes drifted down, her luscious long legs were covered with black fishnet stockings and her feet were strapped into a pair of impossibly high stilettoes. He licked his lips and gazed into her eyes. A smile lit up her face.

"Dinner can wait," he said huskily. He reached out and taking her arm pulled her into the apartment.

Lily dropped her small duffle bag and handbag on the floor as Flynn kicked the door shut. He dragged her into his arms, her breasts crushed by his rock solid chest, as he frantically devoured her mouth. His hands were all over her body, he hesitated at her back where a bra strap should have been. No bra, a thong. This girl knows how to tempt a man. He squeezed the firm round globes of her bare butt.

My Book Review:

In Deadly Secrets, author Lacey Roberts weaves an intriguing erotic romantic suspense tale set in Canberra, Australia, that follows Detective Inspector Flynn Mitchell and Forensic Pathologist Lily Reid as they investigate the mysterious murder of Mason Jamison, a twenty year old college student, who was bitten by an Egyptian Cobra. While investigating the murder and potential threat to the park / forest environment and townspeople if the cobras were let loose and breeding in the area, Flynn and Lily engage in a steamy love affair, but can their relationship last if their own lives become threatened?

Deadly Secrets is a fascinating tale that perfectly intertwines an erotic romance with a suspenseful mystery. From the beginning, the reader is drawn into the murder mystery that brings Flynn and Lily together. It is a fast paced story that is very well written, I thought that the balance between the murder mystery and the steamy romance easily kept me engaged and turning the pages. The story was full of drama, suspense, and surprising twists and turns that kept me guessing; while Lily and Flynn's instant attraction was full of electricity that sparked a passionate and steamy romance that was truly swoon worthy.

I loved that the author provided the reader with accurate and knowledgeable information about the Egyptian Cobra, and while I am scared to death of snakes, I really appreciated the attention to detail that she took to weave a convincing mystery that featured this deadly species of snakes.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I really enjoyed the variety of cast of characters in this story. I enjoyed the chemistry that Lily and Flynn shared in their professional and personal life; while I also enjoyed the mystery and suspense of trying to guess who the leader of the group was that were releasing the cobras into the parks.

Deadly Secrets is an enjoyable erotic romantic suspense story that will easily keep the reader captivated from beginning to end!

Book Description:

For a dramatic male/male read, look no further than Getting It Right by A.M. Arthur. This contemporary romance is full of heart-wrenching moments guaranteed to draw you in and leave you wanting more.

Detective Nathan Wolf might just be a junior detective, but he tackles every case with the passion that he lacks in his personal life. A series of failed relationships with women has left him still single at thirty-four--because he's too scared to admit to his longtime crush on his best friend James.

Dr. James Taggert likes to keep his profession as a psychiatrist separate from his party-animal persona. Known around the gay clubs as Tag, he’s the guy who screws them, leaves them, and never looks back. But James’s drinking is getting heavier, and when bad memories from the past resurface, he’s close to becoming the worst version of himself.

After a drunken blackout ends in a hot and heavy make-out session with his very straight best friend, James has no memory of the steamy affair. But Nathan isn't sorry for the kisses that James can't remember. Nathan finally musters the courage to tell James how he really feels, but a life-altering event might force them apart before they can ever be together.

Book Excerpt:

He smoked his way through two more cigarettes before Nathan’s beat-up Ram pickup pulled alongside the curb. For a city cop, he was still adorably country. Nathan leaned across the console to shove open the passenger side door, and James gratefully slid inside. The simple, familiar presence of Nathan nearby made James’s nerves unfurl a little bit more. Nathan was the one thing in James’s life that had always made sense. Had always been easy.

Weariness settled into his bones, turning his drunken daze into extreme fatigue. He wanted to pass out and soon.

Nathan shoved a bottle of water at him, then eased the truck back into the street. He cracked both of the front windows, probably because James reeked of smoke. Nathan had never been shy about telling him how gross his habit was. Nathan was also smart enough not to engage in conversation until they were shuffling up the short sidewalk to Nathan’s half of a two-story duplex. Nathan slung an arm around James’s waist, and the heat of the other man’s body so close felt amazing. Real. Not like the fake closeness of dancing with strangers in a crowded bar.

He finally got a good look at his friend as Nathan crossed the narrow living room to the kitchen in the rear. Flannel pajama pants and a spring coat. James had woken him up.

Yeah, I’m a douche bag.

“You hungry?” Nathan shouted from the kitchen.

“No.” In the familiar, somewhat cluttered warmth of Nathan’s home, he had a safe place to wallow in the shame still burning in his gut.

Nathan’s place was the definition of a straight bachelor’s pad—which worked since Nathan was a straight bachelor. Dark leather furniture right out of a magazine’s page, decorated exactly the same because he couldn’t be bothered. A monster, sixty-inch flat screen mounted on the wall over an entertainment console boasted two gaming systems, alongside a Blu-ray player and hundreds of movies. Only a handful of photos hung on the wall, mostly of his rather large extended family that lived in southern Delaware.

James paused to stare at a familiar photo of himself with Nathan, taken right after Nathan had graduated from the police academy. They were both grinning, arms slung around each other’s shoulder. Nathan so handsome in his uniform, James in a gray suit that hadn’t been stylish in a decade. Because that’s how long it had been. Nathan had made detective last year, so he didn’t wear his uniform anymore. James sort of missed it.

Nathan came back into the living room sans coat, a white wifebeater showing off his muscled arms and flat stomach. He was one-eighth Nanticoke Indian on his mother’s side, which gave his skin a lovely golden hue. His short hair was shiny black, and was always soft on the rare occasion James had a reason to touch it. His dark brown eyes often seemed to be smiling at him, even when things were serious, like right now.

He was carrying a bamboo tray loaded down with two shot glasses, a bottle of Kentucky bourbon and a bag of barbecue potato chips. He settled the tray on his magazine-covered coffee table, then poured them each a shot.

James sank onto the couch next to Nathan and accepted the glass. After a silent toast, he threw it back. The harsh, smoky liquid burned its way into his stomach.

Nathan refilled both glasses. “Does your mom know?”

About The Author

No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships and "bromance" (and "The Young Riders") with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments.

Hard Wear by Marilyn Lakewood (Author Guest Post / Book Review / Contest Giveaway)

In association with Virtual Book Tour Cafe, Jersey Girl Sizzling Book Reviews is pleased to host the virtual book tour event for Hard Wear by Author Marilyn Lakewood!

Author Guest Post

ROMANTIC ALPHA HEROES

I’ve read hundreds of romances and the hotter the hero, the more I liked the book. The right leading man can turn a good story into a great one. The heroine should be likable and someone I understand, but the hero needs to be breathtaking. Those sexy rogues win me over every time.

Romance stories thrive on alpha heroes, and I think there are certain qualities that make a man, well, heroic.

Here’s a list of my favorite alpha traits in romance books:

Core characteristics:

Calm- You rarely see a hero raving, screaming, or having panic attacks.
Confident- Heroes make decisions and make things happen.
Honorable- Heroes take the high road.
Attentive- Heroes keep track of their girl and give her what she needs.
Protective- He puts himself in front of his girl.
Courageous- He stays in front of his girl. (He saves her and escapes with her. HEA, please.) Compassionate- Heroes take care of the weak, injured, and innocent. And they like dogs.

What he looks like:

Attractive face and lean, muscled body- He’s also well-endowed and knows how to operate that heavy equipment.
Nice hair- Light or dark, it doesn’t matter, but I like longish hair.
Great fitting jeans- Okay, maybe he rocks in a sophisticated, made-to-measure suit too.

And the magic ingredient:

Sex Appeal- A good hero must have this often intangible quality. Without sex appeal there wouldn’t be much passion, and passion is what drives erotic romance.

Well, that’s my list of what I like in a leading man. It’s subjective, yet most women have definite preferences. What do you like in your heroes?

Leave a comment and let me know.

Wishing you all happy reading.

Marilyn

Book Description:

Book One of the Hot Alpha Billionaire Series

Stand alone. Not a cliff-hanger. HEA. M/F, Mild D/s themes.

How does a sophisticated man with everything, convince an unassuming older woman with nothing, that she’s what he desperately needs?

At 36, Chase Tanner controlled his world and the women in his bed. With a grown son and several successful businesses, he thought he had everything a man could desire… until he walked down the aisle of a country hardware store and saw exactly what he needed for a happily-ever-after. Now, he just had to make her believe it.

You’re just not good enough, Kali.”

Her ex-husband’s hurtful words echoed in Kali Benson’s heart as she rebuilt her life in tiny Laketon, Washington. It took some time, but at 39, she’s happy, self-sufficient, and emotionally armored.

She’s strong enough to resist a sweet-talking hunk, who drives an old Dodge truck and makes her feel nineteen again... isn't she?

Book Excerpt:

Chase took the shortest route to the auto accessories area and cut through the carpentry section. He turned down the aisle and his steps slowed. Fuses, old trucks, everything, dropped off the radar as his gaze focused on the woman perusing the locks-and-hinge display.
Sweet. There was something incredibly sweet and alluring about her. More than pretty, she was arresting. His heart did a drum roll against his ribs, and he drew in a deep, stabilizing breath.
Easing to a stop a few steps away, he positioned himself near the opposite side of the aisle as if he were interested in something other than her. Not the most inspired tactic, but he needed a moment to process her intense effect on him.
In profile, she had a straight, refined nose, full lips, and a balanced chin. Thick, golden-brown hair shimmered in glossy layers past her shoulders, styled with a fringe of bangs across her dark, tawny brows.
When she pulled an item from the display, he noticed she kept her nails a short, practical length, and she wore no wedding ring.
His eyes drifted down her slender length, admiring her lush, handful-size breasts and the pert nipples that dimpled against her knit top. She had a slim waist, gently rounded hips, and a great curvy ass, temptingly displayed in a pair of distinctive cutoffs. They were distinctive to him, at least. Although she’d removed the label, he recognized Soft Wear jeans and understood what the brand signified.
This little beauty might not want anyone in Laketon to know, but if she bought those jeans, she harbored at least some sexually submissive desires.
In a sudden, vivid image, he pictured her in his bed, her body pinned beneath him, his hands holding hers against the mattress. He imagined her thighs around his hips. The first intimate touch of his cock to her sex. Her mouth parted, gasping when he shifted deeper.
The fantasy jolted him.
He flinched and she turned her head.
Large, topaz eyes danced over him, and she smiled distractedly, the merest civility necessary, before returning her attention back to the shelves. He’d been dismissed. There was nothing haughty or superior about it, but apparently she’d found him unsuitable.
A grin tugged on his mouth. He enjoyed a challenge.

My Book Review:

Hard Wear is a wonderfully light erotic romance tale that follows thirty-six year old successful businessman and Dom Chase Tanner as he pursues the beautiful and reluctant submissive thirty-nine year old divorcee Kali Benson.

Author Marilyn Lakewood weaves an entertaining light BDSM tale set in the small lakeside town of Laketon, Washington, that easily draws the reader into Chase and Kali's story. I loved the balance of romance, drama, and eroticism in this story. The author does a wonderful job of focusing the story on Chase's pursuit of Kali, and how their relationship playfully builds up to a steamy seduction, and grows into something more romantic.

This story has a richly sensual seduction and excitement that keeps the reader engaged as Chase and Kali's story unfolds. I couldn't help but really love Chase, he's a sexy Alpha male Dominant that has no problem persuading a reluctant submissive to give into the pleasures of the body, but what makes him so much more desirable is that he wants something more from Kali, her heart! And as for Kali, she is a woman coming into her own after a devastating divorce. I appreciated her desire to start a new life and her new found optimism, and I couldn't help but smile as she slowly gives into her desires that lay below the surface. But what I enjoyed most of all about this story is that it featured two mature adults who have experienced life and its trials and tribulations, yet still had a mixture of romance and sexual burning desire for each other.

Hard Wear is an enjoyable erotic romance story that has everything that a reader could hope for. It is a very swoon worthy tale that will leave you wanting more!
